AIX Installation with USB Memory Stick

+. USB port installation on AIX Partition

   a. Configure the USB bridge (DLPAR/LPAR Configuration)

      PCI-to-PCI bridge (Physical I/O) to AIX Partition

   b. Configure the USB port

      # cfgmgr

 # lsdev -C | grep usb

 

+. mksysb backup to the USB memory stick

a. mksysb -mieX /dev/usbms0  (using mksysb cli)

b. smitty mksysb (using smit)

 # smitty mksysb

   > Back DEVICE or FILE : /dev/usbms0

+. Deconfigure the USB meory stick

    a. lsdev -C | grep usb

       -----------------------------------

usb0 Available USB System Software

usbhc0 Available 00-08 USB Host Controller (33103500)

usbhc1 Available 00-09 USB Host Controller (33103500)

usbhc2 Available 00-0a USB Enhanced Host Controller (3310e000)

usbms0 Available 2.3 USB Mass Storage

    b. lsdev -l usbhc0 -F parent     (USB Host Controller)

    c. lsdev -l usb0 -F parent       (USB System Software)

    d. rmdev -dl pci0 -R ; rmdev -dl usb0 -R 

    e. cfgmgr 

    f. lsdev -C | grep usb

+. Restoring the AIX system for usb memory stick

    a. Start the LPAR into SMS mode

b. Select Boot Options > Select Install/Boot Device 

     > List all Devices > select option with USB disk

 > Normal Mode Boot > exit 'SMS Mode'
